SIGACIK AND SEFERIHISAR
Those who like to 'slow down' a bit should definitely put Seferihisar, which has been deemed worthy of Turkey's first Citta Slow (Quiet Town) title and exhibits an exemplary municipality and settlement culture, on their radar.
Especially Sığacık, Seferihisar's historical port and fortress town from the Genoese, suspended in time, are worth seeing.
As you wander among the narrow cobblestone labyrinthine streets and small two-story stone houses painted white in the historic castle of Sığacık, a tiny settlement, you experience a riot of color and smell.
The streets, doorways, windows, balconies, walls are adorned with red, pink, orange, purple, white, blue geraniums, roses, bougainvilleas, petunias, and jasmines. In between, the tangerine gardens exude a delightful scent. Every corner you step into is as beautiful as a postcard. There are only ceramic and wooden signs decorated with hand-made writings and motifs on the doors and walls. The walls of the buildings are painted with colorful flower, tree, cat, butterfly and bird motifs. The architecture of the two-story houses and mansions with courtyards, bay windows and wooden shutters has been perfectly preserved with restorations. Bicycles hung on the side walls of the hotels are waiting for you to pedal to explore the surroundings. The enlightened and open-minded locals greet each other and their guests by sitting on the chair they put in front of their doors. You do not come across any construction or noise pollution that tires your eyes and soul.
